  • Cedar Siding

When you’re constructing an elegant luxury home, design and durability matter. As a beautiful soft wood, cedar not only has the aesthetic appeal but, because of its unique properties, has the longevity you’re looking for. These two factors mean that using cedar siding for your home actually increases the value of your property.

Pacwood mills and manufactures different species of cedar: Western Red Cedar, Incense Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar and Canadian Red Cedar.

  • Cedar Shingles

When used inside your home, the aromatic properties of cedar elicit feelings of warmth, comfort and wellbeing.

For your home's exterior, cedar shingles are excellent at preventing heat transfer: when it’s cold outside, they keep your home cozy and warm, and when it’s hot outside, they ensure your home stays cool. In doing so, cedar shingles not only increase the value of your home, they decrease your power bill.

While cedar is naturally antimicrobial, stable and weather resistant, over time the wood darkens. To extend the life of cedar shingles and ensure consistency of color, that you have your cedar products pre-stained.

  • FCS Reclaimed Lumber

Forest Stewardship Council reclaimed lumber is an environmentally responsible and economical way to get the rustic aesthetic of a bygone era. The lumber is salvaged from older buildings then milled and treated to give you that timeless appearance with increased durability.

PacWood mills and treats two kinds of reclaimed wood: Picklewood and Doug Fir. The reclaimed Picklewood has been used in the construction of new homes in the Tahoe area. While the Doug Fir is more commonly used for interior molding and trim.

    Reclaimed lumber is uses:

    ● Framing lumber

    ● Hardwood flooring

    ● Cedar siding

    ● Interior paneling

    ● Doug Fir flooring

    ● Redwood siding

    ● Timbers and beams

    ● Cedar shakes and shingles

  • Doug Fir

Doug fir is the hardest of all softwoods and has a rich, warm color. It is the most popular interior wood choice among homeowners, architects and contractors.

Its hardness makes it the ideal choice for interior trim and molding because it holds nails and screws well, and resists scratching and denting. Aesthetically, its color and grain pattern give homes a contemporary rich, warm and distinctly Pacific Coast feel.

There are two types of graining: vertical and mixed. Vertical, or tight grain, has a tight grain pattern and consistent coloring. Mixed grain, or flat grain, has a looser, wider grain and provides visual interest with its mixed light/dark grain pattern.

  • Pine

Northern California Pine is a beautiful, aromatic and versatile softwood which works well for trim, moldings, ceilings and floors. The natural pine aroma and uniform warm color make pine a popular choice among home-owners, contractors and architects.

Pine is a fairly knotty wood with a clear vertical grain, many people choose it because of these visually interesting characteristics. To enhance these characteristics some home-owners request the contemporary “distressed look,” which is created using chains and screwdrivers to scar the wood before it is shipped.

We mill pine into 6ft. to 16ft. lengths for high quality molding and can mill most patterns up to 12” wide.

  • Knotty Alder

Knotty Alder’s straight grain, which is pitted with knots, give it a rustic appeal, making it a popular choice for premium wood doors and cabinets. The coloring of Knotty Alder makes it pair well with Cherry wood.

Benefits of Factory Pre-Stained Lumber

At PacWood, we offer the choice to pre stain all the lumber we ship. After milling, our pre stain machine flood coats the wood, and then back brushes off the excess before it is placed under blowers to dry. Letting us pre stain your lumber is beneficial in a few ways:

  • It’s better. Our pre staining system ensures the most even, complete stain coverage of your lumber and eliminates streaks, drip marks and the other negatives of on-site treatment.

  • It’s cheaper. Having your lumber pre stained costs a fraction of what it will cost to do the job on site

  • It’s already done. We stain your lumber before it leaves our facility. That means you don’t have to worry about unfortunate weather delays, no-show personnel or other common problems of on-site treatment.
