Wildland Urban Interface
Starting January 2008, the new 2007 California Building Code (CBC) becomes effective. For products to be used in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), there are some regulations that required building products to comply with specific standards. In an effort to provide the home owners, industries, designers, local fire and building officials a readily list of “compliance WUI products”, the State Fire Marshal is publishing this “WUI Products Handbook”.

Western Wood Products Association
On January 1, 2008, California implemented requirements for building materials, systems and assemblies used in the exterior design and construction of new buildings within a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) fire area. These regulations and standards, initiated by the California State Fire Marshal’s Office, created new requirements under Chapter 7A of the California Building Code and cover exterior wood products such as siding, decking and soffits. The full standard is available online at http://www.fire.ca.gov. The following wood species and products meet the California Building Code Chapter 7A for construction in WUI areas. These products have been successfully fire-tested or accepted in the State Fire Marshal WUI Products Handbook.
